Teaching the basics of visual design often gets overlooked yet is essential to good design. Understanding design principles such as the elements of color, shape and principles of proportion and balance are important in all fields of design and help shape how we view our surroundings. Richard Lane, Autodesk Senior Manager, Training and Certification, recently engaged 6th and 7th grade students in learning the basics of visual design during 30 minute practical activity sessions as part of career day event day held at his local school in the UK. Using the Visual Design application and the hands on Design lesson available in the Digital STEAM Workshop curriculum, students explored the basics of visual design in 3D through a fun interactive application and simple hands on activity. The project was easy to implement, no software experience required, and didn’t required hours of class time... most importantly ....the students loved it! http://curriculum.autodesk.com/student/public/level1/tools/content_id/14
